FIRST RESPONDERS
How Festive and friendly the Big Breakfast and Mini Christmas fair was on December 2nd . This was a huge success thanks to all those that decorated the Hall and Christmas Tree so tastefully , the cooks and all the many helpers , the gifts for the stalls and Raffle.
The cooks, Jennie and Sarah and some of the helpers at the December Big Breakfast.
The early arrivals for breakfast.
Guess WHO ????
Stall holders enjoying themselves at the Mini Christmas Fayre.
Our thanks to Jo Vassey at Underhill farm , Hackney Hill, who has generously donated the delicious eggs for all our Big Breakfasts over the last couple of years. Many of you will be aware that to be able to keep the Responders going requires a large input of money . To keep the Responder's car on the road is expensive and many items of kit have to be bought . More training is in the pipeline . Please support us ! We have had two ' shouts' at the end of November, thankfully not too serious. See Notice boards and Chimes for next Big Breakfast on Sat. February 10th 9.am till 11am ! Paula and Stuart
TUESDAY CLUB CHRISTMAS DINNER The Dinner at Halstock Golf Club was very much enjoyed by 50 plus Tuesday Club Members and friends from the Village. Thank you Heather and Marie for organising this and thanks to the Golf Club for excellent service, for the pianist, and the delicious meal. Paula

PAPER AND CARDBOARD Please would you all remember that cardboard is to be put in the Councils green plastic bags. Paper to the shed in the car park of the Village Hall - - this provides valuable funds for your Village Hall. Some people forget and put cardboard in the shed and our valuable resource of paper to the dustman. Paula
GENERATING ELECTRICITY FROM WIND ENERGY The Corscombe & Halstock Renewable Energy Group invites you to their second meeting at 7.30pm Thursday 4th January at Corscombe Village Hall, on the subject of generating electricity from domestic and community wind turbines. This is an open meeting, all invited. Our guest speaker is Keith Wheaton Green, who is the local technical expert on the subject, and should be able to answer all your questions, so it should be an interesting night. We don't want to charge for entry but since the costs of the meeting will be around £50 a contribution of around £2 a person would be helpful. Tea, coffee and home made biscuits will be supplied!

HOW LUCKY WE ALL ARE ! I find it sad that people feel that they must have a moan. Why no praise for a change. Be thankful we are all lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of Dorset with so many kind and wonderful people, especially those who give of their time on a voluntary basis to keep alive such things as the Church, Village Hall, Clubs etc. and of special mention the First Responders who we all might need one day. All these people need our support and I for one would like to thank them. Yes we all have our gripes, but moaning and unsigned letters won’t help. Why not put your names to your moans, then if anyone has an answer or solution to your problem they know who to contact. Re December’s Moaning Minnie. Can I offer the following solution to the grit containers. They were beautifully designed, but as they have no lids the salt and sand gets very wet and leaches through the small drain holes. Is there anyone out there that could fit lids? Regrettably the size of farm vehicles are getting bigger so our narrow lanes are bound to suffer. If drivers were better at reversing into a suitable passing place instead of trying to push pass this may help solve some of the wear and tear. Those of us who were born and brought up in the countryside have seen big changes and it is at hard sometimes to adjust to some of them, but we try!! One thing I would say is that villages were never meant to be like TV makeover programmes. If EVERYONE picked up litter when they see it and drove with more care some of these problems would cure themselves ! In a nutshell. The natives of Dorset can learn from those who move in here and vice versa ! Finally I would like to say a very big 'thank you' to all our voluntary workers and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. Jennifer Gregson
LADYBIRD'S PLAYGROUP As I am writing this we have had terrible storms, but that did not put a damper on the Schools Out Disco. There were lots of naughty school boys and girls, Dinner Ladies (Sarah Woods, Nikki and Jo) Headmistress (Vicky) and Head boy and Girl (Sarah and Terry Girling). Lashings of Mash potato (in small balls), Sausages, baked beans and mushy peas, followed by a grand lay out of school dinner puds, rice pud, jam roly poly, spotted dick to name but a few, served by the dinner ladies. Our own preparations of our annual Christmas party and preparations are underway, for meeting Santa. Look out for him flying over your house with his reindeer and sleigh on his way to the Village Hall. Looking ahead we have a jumble sale on 3rd February so if you are having a pre Christmas sort out keep it back and pop it in to the playgroup from 12.15 – 12.45 (please only good quality items and no bulky items) phone Sarah G 891485 or Sarah W 891955 We would also like to congratulate Nikki Pruden and her brother Tom for completing their sponsored mince pie marathon!!! They had to eat as many mini mince pies they could in 30 mins. They managed a staggering 46 between them. Sponsored money will be put towards new toys for the children. We would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy start to the year of 2007. We have some vacancies for all playgroup days. Please phone Sarah Woods 891955 for an informal chat.

DO YOUR BIT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: SPONSOR A TREE FOR CHREG: ONLY £1 A TIME!
The Corscombe & Halstock Renewable Energy Group needs funds to pay for speakers, hall hire, and reserves to keep it going. What better way than to get sponsorship for planting trees which will be turned into carbon neutral heating fuel, which will in the course of time be burnt as a substitute for carbon expensive fossil fuel? For each £1 you send me, a willow slip will be planted in Corscombe or Halstock which will be maintained until it becomes a tree. I will send you a receipt for your contribution, and a photograph of the new plantation when completed. Apart from the cost of this, the entire £1 will be put to informing and assisting local people in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Maximum contribution £100 please, unless you can provide some extra land to plant up! Please send or drop in cash or cheque (payable to Henry Lovegrove) stating your name and address to: CHREG, Comforts Orchard, Corscombe, Dorchester DT2 0NX (tel 01935 891415) (Sorry, CHREG has not got a bank account yet)
