VILLAGE OUTING What beautiful weather and what a fun place. Paulton's Park near Cadnum in the New Forest was a great choice for the George Hawkins Trust Outing on Friday 25th August. It was a really pleasant drive and the park was enjoyed by children and adults alike, something for everyone. One of the best outings we have had, returning at 7.00pm with happy tired children. Thanks to Liz and Emily Rendell for organising the trip. Paula
Thank You I would like to thank all my friends in the Village for their kindness, cards, and prayers during my recent hospital stay and convalescence. Living in a close community such as ours makes one so grateful when a helping hand is needed. Ruth Newman

I would like to point out that these are very nervous creatures and not a threat to humans. They may be seen only fleetingly and only if one is very quietly walking in the countryside. I have had reports from Halstock and Maiden Newton of several sightings since my report last month. Paula

Moaning Minnie Light Pollution Not a great problem in the Village - but one to watch! Did you know that glaring lights are now counted as criminally anti-social (like litter, noise, smoke, dog poo etc.)? Now that the dark evenings are coming, please make sure that security lights etc. are sited so that they don't dazzle your neighbours or shine into the eyes of motorists. We are lucky that the light glare from Yeovil is more or less hidden by Woodfold Hill. Let us keep it so we can see the stars! Anonymous (name given)

Ladybird's Playgroup With the new start to the school year, Ladybirds are delighted to welcome Charlotte, Alysia, Sam, Isobel and Millie. This year we have children going on to Sticklands and to Parrett and Axe School and we wish them all a happy year with us. This term our big theme is food, where it comes from and how we enjoy it and we will be doing a display to decorate the church for the Harvest Festival. Just a reminder that sessions run Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings until12.15 or the children can stay to lunch until 2.00 if they wish.
Further details from Sarah Woods on 01935 891 955.
Our parent and toddler group is on Tuesdays with Beverly Coleberd. With early Christmas shopping in mind, if anyone is shopping online, please think about visiting our website www.Ladybirds.org.uk where for a minimum of extra effort you can make an automatic donation to our funds by shopping at Amazon and many other major sites. Thanks very much! Sarah Girling
FIRST RESPONDERS Fortunately a very quiet month because First responders have been depleted due to holidays and people working away from home. We desperately need more volunteers to help provide the service our community deserves. If you have a bit of free time during the odd day or night please give Stuart a call on 01935 891765 for details or contact any Responder. By the time you read this we should have had our first Big Breakfast and be getting ready for the next on the 4th November. I know it’s a bit early for ‘Fireworks and Bonfire’ warnings but please take extra care with young children. Burns are very painful and can be very disfiguring, so please take care. Don’t forget pets and livestock are also frightened by loud noises and bright flashes, please keep pets indoors and don’t fire rockets over fields where sheep and cattle are grazing.

Put a brick or something heavy on the lid or ideally put your rubbish out before 7.15 am on Fridays just before collection.)
Sign of the Times It is sometimes not realised that each Parish Church has to be financially self supporting. There is no national fund to draw from when cash is short. The inhabitants of each area have the responsibility of maintaining its church building AND perhaps even more important to those of us who call ourselves Christians, there is a need to ensure that men and women are being trained to guide us in the way of Christ. Money has to be found for training, housing and pensioning clergy and like every other walk of life it is a cost which increases year by year. Perhaps for the first time ever, the estimates for the year for St Mary’s forecast that Cash EXPENSES will EXCEED Cash INCOME. There could be a shortage of between £3,000 and £4,000, in other words £60 to £80 per week below requirements. Your PCC is looking at ways to raise lump sums but the real need is for an increase in regular weekly/monthly income. So many households in Corscombe are already extremely generous and we are hesitant about asking for more BUT needs must. Twenty five households giving £2.50 per week on a regular basis would do it (even better if tax payers!!!) Your help is urgently required and would be very thankfully received.
