Corscombe Rustic Fayre.

25th June 2005.

The Annual Rustic Fayre was held at Corscombe Court, courtesy of Mr & Mrs John Peak, and although the sun didn't shine, it was dry and warm. The event was very well attended and hopefully lots of money has been made!! The stalls were loaded with goodies from generous villagers who sorted out items for the book stall and bric-a-brac, baked cakes for the tea stall and the cake stall....who could resist those cakes!! The plant stall and bottle stalls were loaded.....people taking more exercise and giving up the drink, well perhaps not! Our side shows and visitors stalls looked splendid and the Face Painter produced lots of imaginative animals and monsters who were spotted wandering round. Although not ideal weather, the bar was busy and the smell of cooking beef burgers and hot dogs was too much to ignore and hunger pangs had to be sorted at the Barbecue. The Tea tent was busy and the cakes and cream teas went down a treat. The demonstration of 'spinning' by Christine Bird attracted a lot of attention, as did the gentleman demonstrating the old country method of wood turning using a pole lathe. I bet his legs ached by the end of the day! Our thanks go to Henry Lovegrove and Chris Toyne who entertained us with the fiddle and accordian......it sounded great. Colin did well with the coconut shy but there were some bad shots as some balls disappeared into the shrubbery. Rosemary kept the younger visitors happy with 'Flip the Frog' and the Raffles and Bottle tombolas did a roaring trade. Poor Rosie had a hard job selling the ice creams but drummed-up a lot of business as the temperature rose. Ian was in the right place with the Bar, I'm sure a lot of us envied him!! I hope everyone enjoyed the slide show of what the 'Open Gardens' would have looked like if the weather had been kinder.

The Fund Raising Committee would like to thank everyone for making the day enjoyable and successful by their donations of cakes, bottles, etc and for their help in setting up the area and stalls and giving up the time to man them. A big thank you to all our visitors for coming and spending time and their money with us.

The attached photographs of the day are available as computer files and if you would like them contact Stuart on 01935 891765 and he will be pleased to pass them on to you.
